Hi, my name is Katy and I’m an aspiring mangaka! I’ve always enjoyed drawing and writing, so it’s perfect – writing up a story line and illustrating it simultaneously. It took me a while to be confident enough to share my art but mid 2015, I made use of my, then 2-year-old, Instagram account to showcase my fan-art and original work. With a bit of encouragement from my family and friends, I’ve decided to try to expand and get my name out there.
My art started out as all black and white pieces (check out my gallery and have a look at the ‘Old Theme’ section!) but during the summer of 2016, I decided to venture out of my comfort zone and incorporate more colour into my art. I’ve never been very good at colouring but I wouldn’t get better unless I tried. Practice really does make perfect, well nearly! There’s always something about my art that I’m improving but at the same time, I’ve become more confident in my rendering skills and I have found my own cutesy style rather than attempting to imitate the styles of my favourite manga artists. Along with this new confidence and style, I started sharing my own characters and then along came my own personal OC, Kat. She’s a work in progress but I think she makes a cute little mascot for my Instagram!
As a result of my art evolution, my Instagram account gained popularity and I have such lovely followers who encourage me as much as my friends and family do. I’ve even had my first ever raffle when I reached 2000 followers, and it was so much fun drawing for the winner and decorating the package with washi tapes!
As for this little website, I’ve decided to change it. For most of 2017, I wrote mostly art-related blog posts which limited how often I could write – especially when I started university at the end of September and had less time to draw. So, for 2018, I’m going to start blogging about other creative things which will give me a broader range of ideas to share with you all. I will aim to post monthly on here as being a university student with a part-time job really takes up a lot of time, so be patient with me! I’ll be sure to let you all know on my Insta when a new blog post is up, but feel free to follow my website for email notifications too!
Thank you to everyone who has shown me such unfaltering support!
