Red String of Fate

The Red String of Fate is an East Asian myth that comes from Chinese legend and one often found in manga.

Though I’m not sure how much I believe in such folklore, I do enjoy reading about it and having a fanciful thought or two. The meaning of the red string, is that it connects two people who are destined to be together, regardless of time, place or other external circumstances. This magical and invisible thread can be stretched and tangled yet it will never break – therefore resulting in the destined meeting.

In Japan, people believe that the red string is tied around the pinky finger, hence the portrayal. The Chinese believe that the matchmaker god, Yué Lăo (月老) is the deity that is in charge of the red string as it is of marriages.

Interesting, no?
